Shabbat

Friday Night Shabbat Services

Come celebrate Shabbat at Congregation Beth Evergreen!

We offer Erev Shabbat (Friday Evening) services on the first and third Friday of every month beginning at 7PM. First Fridays are usually a Kabbalat Shabbat service using the Kol Haneshemah Reconstructionist Siddur (Prayer Book), and the form for the third Friday is always evolving.

Our Friday night services are followed by an oneg, hosted by members of the congregation. If you would like to host an oneg to mark a simcha, remember a loved one, or just because, please contact Elizabeth in the office for more details.

Please be sure to check out the master calendar as sometimes our schedule changes.

"Mostly Music" Services

For those interested in a non-traditional, fun kind of Shabbat service, we’ve started something new! It’s a “Mostly Music” evening Kabbalat Shabbat service. The program was inaugurated September 2014, and it was so warmly received that we will continue this service on the third Friday evening of each month.

This service will be co-lead by a variety of cantorial soloists, or shliach tziborim (voice of the people). Each will use their special talents to guide us through the Shabbat liturgy through music. Rabbi Jamie will co-lead the service with his musical partnership and special readings. Other musicians, in addition to Rabbi Jamie, may be on the bimah as well. From time to time, we hope we’ll be able to invite guests from around the country for this “Mostly Music” service.

Please see the calendar for dates and co-leaders with Rabbi Jamie Arnold.

Past Mostly Music Services

Saturday Morning Shabbat

Join us to celebrate Shabbat and to hear the words of the Torah on the second Saturday morning of every month at 10:00 AM. Second Saturdays often offer a traditional service setting, often with a Bar or Bat Mitzvah celebration, and Kriat Ha-Torah, chanting aloud the Word from our Torah scroll. When we don't have a Bar or Bat Mitzvah celebration, we have a less formal setting to explore and discuss the Biblical readings of the week and the stories and commentaries that surround them, and experimentation with alternative prayer forms.

Family (Mishpochah) Services

Update this content.

Family (Mishpochah) Shabbat - formerly called Tot Shabbats -  are oriented towards families whose children are 0-8 and  are usually held once a month on Saturday mornings at 9AM or Friday nights at 6PM. These family-oriented Shabbat services are a great opportunity to introduce young ones to Jewish ritual. The services are musical and fun.

Please watch the calendar page for upcoming dates.
