As members, affiliates, and allies of the Reconstructionist Movement, we invite you and your respective communities to participate in a second annual movement-wide tikun leil Shavuot

At the culmination of seven weeks of counting, on Sunday evening, May 16, let us gather again, regrouping and reZOOMing our collective calling to evolve Jewish civilization for the common good of all who inhabit the earth.  Join us in honoring Chag HaShavuot with 15-hours of communing through story, study, shared silence and song, celebrating the ‘first fruits of the flourishing our redemption,’ and continuing the pilgrimage in pursuit of justice and peace near and far.

This year’s gathering will build on the strengths of lasts year’s event which convened nearly 1000 participants and more than 50 different presenters from around the world.  We will again use a single Zoom link for all the sessions, offering an array of topics for study and types of engagement led by a variety of teachers and leaders from across the movement.  We will also conclude with a live Shavuot morning service.

Maamad Sinai translates as ‘Standing [at] Sinai.’  Centuries ago, the sages linked the Feast of Weeks [Shavuot] and First Fruits [Biqurim] to the mythic event of standing together at Mt. Sinai to receive the Torah.  This year, let us extend the metaphor, hearing in the phrase maamad sinai a renewed calling to take a stand, up-standing rather than by-standing.

Just as the Amidah, or standing devotional prayer, customarily begins by taking a series of steps back and forward, so too our preparation for the dawning of a season for harvesting change shall begin with standing and stepping forward, each of us with a unique and valued offering and story to share.
